| On the road to Emmaus, Jesus appears to
two of his disciples. They do not yet recognize him. They
are still too much in grief. God has become a stranger
to them.
But Jesus has things he needs to share
with these grieving men on this walk. Things concerning
hope and the future, life and death, loss and restoration.
Things only he knows. Things
only he can explain.
It is only while seated
at the table with them in the symbolic act of breaking
bread that he is recognized.
Jesus, the broken Bread
of Life, is revealed to broken people. |
Why this
trial's been given
Only he can say
For now we must trust him
And know for sure someday
You'll look down to the valley
From his holy hill
And you will share,
how suffering there
You found him deeper still. |
