My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me."

Matthew 26:39

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?"

Matthew 26:40

Home

Jesus didn’t want to drink of the cup of suffering.

How human. How like us. Even God’s Son didn’t want to face the grief that awaited him. Who does?

"God, get me out of this. Do a miracle. Don’t make me go through this divorce. This sickness. This loss of wife, husband, child, career, health. Take it from me. Take it."

But the cup still remains.

And then, like Christ at Gethsemane, we look for help from others, and often it’s not there.
